Casco Township Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee oversees the development of parks and recreation opportunities for residents of Casco Township. In addition, the Parks and Recreation Committee makes sure the Township has a certifiable Recreation Plan on file with the State of Michigan. The committee holds monthly meetings, usually on a Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. To find out the date of the next meeting, contact the Township Hall, (269) 637-4441. All meetings are open to the public and held at Casco Township Hall, 7104 107th Avenue at the corner of 71st Street.
From August to November, 2007, a special Strategy committee for Parks & Recreation reviewed finances, security, and other matters related to park operation. Their final report is available for review by clicking here.
Currently, Casco Township is pursuing grant funding to acquire a Lake Michigan Lakefront parcel on the 700 block of Blue Star Highway. Known as the Stefan parcel, Casco Township is working with the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy to purchase this parcel for use as a public park/nature preserve. The parcel is 8.5 acres is size with 300' of Lake Michigan frontage. The Township has applied to the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund for grant funding to secure the land for public use. (Because the land is still privately held, residents are not permitted to walk the property). A decision about this important grant opportunity will be made in December 2007.

A new Parks and Recreation Plan (2007-2011) has been approved by the Board. Copies are available for purchase at the Township Hall; the draft is available for review here.
