Casco Township Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is responsible for overseeing land use policies, planning and zoning decisions facing the Township. Primary actions of the Planning Commission include:

  1. Reviewing and updating the Master Plan
  2. Reviewing and updating the Zoning Ordinance.
  3. Deciding on special use requests
  4. Reviewing site plans and addressing zoning compliance issues with developers;
  5. Reviewing requests for rezoning parcels.

The Planning Commission operates according to established by-laws. Generally, one regular meeting is held on a Wednesday evening early in each month; other meetings are scheduled as needed. All meetings are open to the public and are held at the Casco Township Hall, 7104 107th Avenue, at the corner of 71st Street. Generally, meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. All public hearings are noticed in the South Haven Tribune. Agendas are available from the Township Hall at least one week prior to the scheduled meeting.

The Planning Commission is comprised of 7 persons, appointed by the Township Supervisor and approved by the Board of Trustees to serve a three year term.

The Master Plan may be reviewed online. The Master Plan defines land use policies in Casco Township and goals and objectives for land use five to ten years into the future. The Master Plan is amended by the Township Board after public comment is received through public hearings. The current Master Plan (adopted 5/2005) can be purchased from the Township Hall for a fee of $10 (additional, for mailing).

The Zoning Ordinance may be reviewed online. The Zoning Ordinance outlines all the rules for construction and land use to support the Master Plan policies and land uses in Casco Township. Zoning Ordinance updates are approved by the Township Board after public comment is received through public hearings. The current Zoning Ordinance (approved in November, 2006) can be purchased from the Township Hall for $15 ($20 to have it mailed).
